Every day around the world, Ecolab associates are working to provide solutions that help protect what is vital: clean water, safe food, abundant energy and healthy environments. Here’s a look at some of our recent accomplishments:
WINNING IN INDONESIA The Energy Services team scored three multi-year new business wins in 2017, including additional contracts from a global energy powerhouse operating in Indonesia. For that customer, our Indonesia team not only secured a three-year renewal for an existing contract, but also two new four- and five-year contracts. From day one, the team has been laser-focused on becoming a key strategic supplier to this major oil and gas customer. These wins position the Indonesia team to play an important role in helping Ecolab meet its global growth targets for 2020 and beyond.
A CLEAN WIN It’s often hard to believe that a higher-cost product used in high volume can actually create savings but that’s exactly what the Ecolab team recently proved to Fairmont Laundry Services in Canada. The hotel was experiencing higher than average linen replacement costs due to high-temperature washing. A 90-day trial of OxyGuard™40 was recommended. The results? A 43 percent reduction in lint that doubled the life expectancy of the hotel’s linens and a 50 percent reduction in the hotel laundry’s steam bill. The hotel is projected to see savings of $180,000 over the next year — and Ecolab’s business there will nearly double.
SELLING ECOLAB’S VALUE Lapithus Hotels Management (LHM) manages operations for 21 hotel properties under global brands such as Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn. Until recently LHM was very happy with Diversey, their long-time supplier. They doubted any other supplier could provide equal on-site support. Ecolab Global Account Manager Mike Hill changed their minds by completing three site surveys and presenting the Ecolab model and programs. Before Mike and Account Director, Lee Kirk got halfway through their presentation, the LHM management team said they were sold and awarded Ecolab their business thanks to our high level of service, nation-wide reach, product innovation and ability to improve on-site efficiency.
EXPANDING ECOLAB’S OFFERINGS IN THE PAPER INDUSTRY In late 2017, Nalco Water acquired Georgia-Pacific Paper Chemicals Business. As a result, Ecolab now offers pulp and paper producers more ways to improve machine efficiency, save water and energy, enhance product quality and boost profitability. From the growing tissue and towel segment to traditional board and packaging manufacturing, these innovative chemistries, applications and solutions are enhancing Ecolab’s position in the paper industry.
JUST THE PRESCRIPTION! Roche’s pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Mannheim, Germany uses a lot of disinfectant — and residue buildup has been an ongoing issue. Two years ago, thanks to the work of Director of Global Business Development Michael Richter, they implemented our Klercide Low Residue Quat, a highly effective disinfectant with signififi cantly lower residues. Since then, the plant has entirely changed its approach to disinfection, ordering Klercide products in multiple formats. Those same solutions are now being implemented at a new Roche site optimized with fifi ve Klercide Pressurised Spray System units. This achievement was possible through strong team work across Ecolab functions, including R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, our Global Technical Consultants and Management.
AWARD-WINNING HYGEINE Last year, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Hospital and Clinic in Budapest enlisted Ecolab Healthcare to help improve environmental hygiene in its surgical center. This partnership proved effective not just in improving disinfecting processes but also led to the production of a training video that was presented at a national infection prevention conference. In thanks, the hospital presented a Semmelweis Award to Ecolab team member Edit Kustos for her “strong commitment and collaboration to reduce healthcare associated infections.” The award is given in honor of the Hungarian doctor who discovered the connection between hygiene and improved surgical outcomes.

WE’VE GOT THE MEATS! It took more than four years to win Arby’s away from Proctor & Gamble — a vendor they’d used for more than 25 years. It was thanks to a team effort that spanned the entire Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) business and required key contributions and coordination across Corporate Account and Field Sales as well as Marketing, Technical, Finance, Legal and Supply Chain. At the end of the day, machine warewashing was a key differentiator for the QSR program. Was it worth the time and effort? You bet. The Arby’s account will bring in a sizable increase in annual revenues.

THIRSTING FOR WATER SAVINGS AB InBev (ABI), the world’s largest brewer, was faced with managing an increasingly complex global network of nearly 300 breweries after acquiring SAB Miller in late 2016. Their goals? To maintain the highest possible quality standards, reduce water use, capture significant operating savings and spread best practices in cleaning and water management across its network. Through countless global meetings, our Ecolab and Nalco Water associates convinced ABI that only Ecolab could deliver on their ambitious global needs. Helping to seal the deal were Ecolab’s 3D TRASAR™ Technology; the promise of a digital customer portal to roll-up world-wide activities; and innovations in filler hygiene, bottle management, lower temp cleaning, and total water management. “Ecolab consistently demonstrated its superiority in terms of innovation, service and technology,” said Gabriel Guzman, ABI’s global director of auxiliaries, renewables and utilities.
